Cycling Holidays in Ireland Self Guided Cycle Kerry Coast

This cycle takes you around the famous Ring of Kerry, which is one of the most picturesque routes in Ireland and has many beautiful beaches, rivers and lakes to enjoy. Kerry, affectionately known to the locals as "The Kingdom" is famous for its coastal and mountainous scenery, for its laid-back way of life, for its pubs and restaurants and especially for the friendliness and humour of the Kerry people.

This cycle tour is self-guided. We provide you with your bike, book your accommodation in family run guesthouses along the route, transfer your luggage between each leg of the tour, provide you with detailed notes and maps of your route - and we are only a phone call away if you need any assistance during your cycle. You can therefore cycle at your own pace and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Kerry.

 

DAY 1 Arrival in Killarney.
Optional transfer from Shannon or Kerry Airport (see below). Arrival at accommodation in Killarney, a very scenic town set in the heart of County Kerry. Collect your bike and time permitting, you have the option of cycling round Killarney National Park and places of interest around Killarney town, before returning to your family run B&B for your first night's accommodation.
DAY 2 Killarney to Glenbeigh.
Total distance of 50km
This days cycle takes you through spectacular and quiet inland scenery into the Beaufort Valley and onto the isolated ice-carved valley of Glencar where you can stop for lunch. In the afternoon you cycle along the green shores of Caragh Lake and onto the small seaside village of Glenbeigh. Overnight in your family run B&B in Glenbeigh, where you can enjoy a good meal and a well deserved drink in one of the local pubs.
DAY 3 Glenbeigh to Waterville.
Total distance of 46km (optional 67km)
This days cycle takes you along the shores of Dingle Bay with great views to the Dingle Peninsula and onto the market village of Caherciveeen where you can lunch. In the afternoon you have the option of doing a longer cycle taking in Valentia Island - known locally as "Treasure Island". The afternoon cycle takes you to the seaside village of Waterville, world famous for its golf course and favourite haunt of Charlie Chaplin. Overnight in your family guesthouse in Waterville for 2 nights.
DAY 4 Free Day.Option cycles
Today you may choose from a variety of options. Our cycling notes will give you the option of circular routes from Waterville, you can spend a lazy day discovering the village, its pubs and walking the beach (including the option of an invigorating Atlantic swim!), enjoy a round of golf at the famous Waterville Golf Course or some fishing, boating or canoeing on Waterville's lakes.
DAY 5 Waterville to Sneem
Total distance of 48km
Todays cycle takes you through Coomakista Pass which is one of the best viewing points in Ireland, with magnificent views over Kenmare and the Atlantic Ocean. Lunch stop either in Derrynane House which is the home of the Irish Liberator Daniel O'Connell or in the small village of Caherdaniel. After lunch you cycle along the coast to the beautiful village of Sneem. Overnight in your family guesthouse in Sneem.
DAY 6 Sneem to Killarney.
Total distance of 48km or 61km
Todays cycle takes you inland and off the main Ring of Kerry road. The highlights of the cycle are Molls Gap where you can stop for lunch. From here to Killarney you will see the spectacular lakes of Killarney and stopping at Ladies View is a must. On route to Killarney you will pass Torc Waterfall and Muckross House. If you want to lengthen todays cycle you can detour to the heritage town of Kenmare. Overnight in your family guesthouse in Killarney for 2 nights
DAY 7 Killarney to Black Valley.
Total distance of 24km or 56km.
This cycle takes you through the dramatic Gap of Dunloe and into the remote Black Valley, the last inland location in Ireland to be connected to electricity. You have the option of cycling down to the edge of the lakes and taking a boat through the 3 Lakes of Killarney or continuing to cycle into Killarney. Tonight make the most of Killarney's many pubs and restaurants before settling down to one of the many sessions of traditional Irish music.
DAY 8 Departure
After your final Irish breakfast, optional  transfer to Shannon or Kerry Airport (see transfer times below)

Price 2009 - Self-Guided Cycle - Euro 665.00 per person sharing

Accommodation is based on a twin sharing basis. A limited number of single rooms are available at a supplement of Euro 189.00 for the week.

Airport Transfers

Go Ireland Airport Transfers to/from Shannon Airport-


Shannon Airport to Kerry ( 9th May - 3rd October) at 12.00 on Saturdays from the information point in the arrivals hall. Return transfer arrives at Shannon Airport at 11.00am on Saturdays.

Public transport options-

You can catch a shuttle bus which operates frequently between Shannon and Limerick city. From Limerick city, you can then hop on a Bus Eireann bus to Killarney or Tralee.

Go Ireland Airport Transfers to/from Kerry Airport

Kerry Airport to accommodation transfers run throughout the year, between 07.00 and 18.00 Hrs on Saturdays. Return transfer arrives at Kerry Airport between 07.00 and 18.00 Hrs on Saturdays.

Public Transport options-

There is a very frequent bus service operating from Kerry Airport to Killarney and Tralee daily.

Cork Airport

Hop on the shuttle bus that operates between Cork Airport and Cork bus station. Here you can get a bus to Killarney which should take about 1hr 20 minutes.

Dublin Airport

Fly with Ryanair to Kerry Airport or get a train from Hueston Station which will drop you to Killarney or Tralee.

Note: These prices are not included in the holiday price.  Prices are based on per person and based on a minimum of 2 people per transfer. These transfers must be confirmed at time of booking with flight numbers and times for arrival and departure. If these transfers aren't confirmed at time of booking we will assume they are making their own way to their first nights accommodation. Refunds are not provided for any unused portions of transfer.  Arrangements can be made for a private taxi transfer (at clients own expense) should the Go Ireland transfer timetable/public transport timetable not suit.
