A strange monumental garden ornament incorporating three medieval sculptures (a unicorn, a saint and a lion), and a long and curious inscription of 1757....

The statue to Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole (1772 - 1842), one of Wellington's Generals in the Penisular War, stands on top of a Doric Column. 108 steps lead to the top of the monument where the visitor is rewarded for his climb by a magnificent panoraic view of Enniskillen...

St Joseph's Monastery stands on Glassagh Hill overlooking the River Foyle and has been the source of inspiration to many religious groups. Religious retreats and vigils are held here often and public participation is encouraged. Servives and retreats available on request....

Padraig Pearse's Cottage; In the townland of Tuar Loch, Rosmuc is the cottage of Padraig Pearse, one of the executed leaders of the 1916 Rising. He came on holidays here and also to learn the Irish language. Here he wrote most of his works, including the O'Donovan Rossa graveside oration (1915). The cottage is now a national monument, open to the public during the summer....

The Lynch Memorial is situated near the Church of St Nicholas in the form of a black marble stone over a built-up Gothic doorway. It commemorates the - stern and unbending justice - of James Lynch Fitzstephen, Mayor of Galway in 1493, who found his own son Walter guilty of murdering a Spanish visitor and condemned him to death. When no one could be found to carry out the sentence, so the popular but dubious legend goes, the Mayor hanged his own son before retiring into seclusion....

Patrick Kavanagh was born 21st October 1904 in Iniskeen, County Monaghan. He was educated locally and later worked on his father's farm which he described in some of his works.
Kavanagh's first book "Ploughman and other Poems" was published in 1938, followed by two novels "The Green Fool" and "Tarry Flynn", both considered to be classics.

The Dromore Mound, which is the remains of an ancient Motte and Bailey, can be found just a few hundred metres from the town centre. It is one of the finest examples of a Norman Motte & Bailey to be found in Ireland today and is protected by the Historic Monuments Branch of the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland....

The Seige Heroes Mound is sited within the grounds of St Columb's Cathedral and it once served as the temporary tomb for the remains of the thirteen Apprentice Boys whose burial place is on the north aisle within St Columb's Cathedral. The remains were removed from their resting place whilst restoration work was carried out in 1862 and placed in the tomb. On the return to their rightful resting place the mound was left as a further monument to the bravery of the young valiant men throughout...

This memorial is located 5.5km from Clonakilty. The beautiful artistic work of the late sculptor Seamus Murphy stands in memory to a great patriot, soldier and statesman, in Irish History....

A reminder of another war, culminating in the Fight for Independence can be seen at eyre Square. In a circular island stands a statue by Donal Murphy of Liam Mellows, the patriot who led one of the few military engagements outside Dublin during the Easter Rising of 1916. The Liam Mellows Hurling Club, founded in 1934, is named in his honour....
