Salmon and Trout:
There are many salmon rivers and loughs in the Western Fisheries Region as well as many large and small wild brown trout waters. Sea trout have been scarce in recent years because of the effect sea-lice have on stocks. Presently stocks are potected by having a ban on the killing of the species in this region and part of the North Wetern Fisheries region only. It is illegal to kill sea-trout in these areas.

During the summer, the lake, with its cool, clear water fed from underground springs is a popular venue with locals and visitors. The Long Point with its car parks, changing and toilet facilities, is an excellent and safe place for swimming. An alternative site for younger children is the shallow sandy area at Coorheen. This charming town on the shores of the Interantionally famous trout-fishing Lough Corrib, is home to Ireland's oldest Angling Club.
